Infinity T-shirt Scarf

Also known as the Udon Scarf!
(And for good reason!)

I made this scarf after finding this blog post just because it seemed so easy and quick. And it was!

For my first experiment I took a couple of my husband's old white t-shirts that didn't fit him after he lost a bunch of weight. They were size XL, so they were quite wide and provided a lot of fabric. It's best to use as big of t-shirt as possible in my opinion! I like full, thick scarves.

For a similar scarf, you will need:
  • 2 XL white t-shirts
  • Fabric scissors
  • A needle and bit of thread matching the t-shirt color
Start by cutting off the bottom hems of both t-shirts and discard or throw in with your scraps. Cut 1 inch strips from the bottom of both shirts to just below the armpit. The strips don't need to be very perfect because you'll then gently stretch each strip and the t-shirt material will naturally curl and become uniform in width.
After cutting 1 inch strips from both t-shirts. Cut an additional 1 inch strip from the shoulder like so:
Stretch this piece gently, until it curls as well. This piece will be wrapped around the rest of the strips to hold them together.

Finally, arrange your pile of fabric strips into a neat bundle and tie one end of the shoulder strip around it. Wrap the shoulder strip around the bundle (covering the knot) tightly and evenly. The wrapped section on my scarf is about 3 inches long. When you reach the end, tuck it under the wrapped section and use your needle and thread to stitch it in place.
And there you have it!

I'm pretty happy with the look of it. Now I want to try it with some colored t-shirts. Maybe even a couple different colors in one scarf. Hopefully it will look less like udon!
